PLANETSIDE 2 FOR THE PC - FAQ

WHAT IS PLANETSIDE 2?
PlanetSide 2 is a revolutionary massive scale first-person shooter where soldiers battle as one in strategic, targeted missions against enemy empires in an all-out planetary war. The game challenges the skill and grit of the most seasoned soldier through intense infantry, air, and ground vehicle gameplay.
WHAT ARE THE THREE EMPIRES IN PLANETSIDE 2?
Terran Republic - An authoritarian government that leverages military might to maintain strict control over the colonial citizens. The Terran Republic are obsessed with the preservation of law and order and are thus seen by some to be an oppressive and dictatorial force, but many view the TR as the only hope for lasting security on Auraxis.

New Conglomerate - Rebels, freedom fighters or terrorists? The New Conglomerate operates as a loosely organized band of dissidents, vehemently opposed to the stranglehold that the Terran Republic has on Auraxis. Led by an unusual quorum of outcasts, industry titans, pirates and former military leaders, the New Conglomerate are unwavering and prepared to achieve their goals by any means necessary.

Vanu Sovereignty - The Vanu have taught that only through technology can humanity evolve its next state of existence. The Vanu Sovereignty are extremely advanced, employing powerful alien technology on the battlefield. Their singular purpose is to uncover the secrets hidden away in ancient artifacts scattered over the surface of Auraxis and they will annihilate anyone who interferes.
WHAT TYPE OF VEHICLE-BASED COMBAT IS IN PLANETSIDE 2?
Turn the tide of battle in a wide variety of vehicles, from the direct-fire, heavily-armored Main Battle Tank to the fire support and troop insertion role of the Galaxy air transport. Take control of battlefield logistics with the ability to place destructible spawn locations on the map for your faction, creating organic, player-created hard points of resistance around strategic areas.

In PlanetSide 2, we don't decide what parts of the map you fight over. You do.
WHAT IS THE BUSINESS MODEL OF PLANETSIDE 2?
PlanetSide 2 is completely free-to-play and is easily accessible to players without spending a dime. However, for those who wish to stand out on the battlefield, players have the option to purchase a wide variety of cosmetic and vanity items, from camouflage to helmets to underlights for vehicles to improve their gameplay experience. The Daybreak Cash marketplace also offers convenience items, such as extra character slots, additional saved loadouts, and Experience Boosts for that extra edge when you're playing hard.
HOW MANY PLAYERS ARE ON A SINGLE SERVER?
PlanetSide 2 is a true "Massive" FPS game which will allow thousands of players to hit the battlefield on the same server.
HOW BIG ARE THE MAPS IN PLANETSIDE 2?
PlanetSide 2 covers the ever-changing world of Auraxis, a beautiful and dangerous planet home to incredible and diverse continent maps. Currently, there are four continent maps, snowy Esamir, the deserts of Indar, the verdant cliffs of Amerish, and the treacherous swampland of Hossin, our newest continent.

Each of these continents covers dozens of square kilometers, every inch of it playable space. Not only is the area of operations huge, it's widely varied. Terrain will force you to adapt your style of play to fit the continent and region that's contested. Will you rush headlong at your foes in the fog of Hossin, where danger lurks behind every tree? Will you try to ambush your enemies in the stark white wastes of Esamir, where they'll see you coming from hundreds of meters away?

Adapt to your surroundings to survive. Fail to adapt, and Auraxis claims another casualty.
WHAT TYPE OF ROLES OR CLASSES CAN I PLAY?
With six distinct classes, players can build their soldier to match their play-style, or the needs of their squad, outfit or Empire. Each combat role, vehicle and weapon has extensive skill trees that will allow players to grow characters, unlock weapons, attachments, equipment, specialized skills, vehicles, and more. Play as one of six distinct classes\:

Light Assault - Where most soldiers are bound to the earth, Light Assaults soar above the fray, controlling the ebb and flow of the battle and hitting enemies where they least expect it. Light Assaults can jump into combat with a variety of weapons, including Shotguns, Carbines, and Submachine Guns. Jump onto elevated positions with Jump Jets or glide long distances using Drifter Jets. Light Assaults are the flankers, the stalemate-breaking foes that cannot be predicted or defended against.

Heavy Assault - The Heavy Assault is the line-holding, versatile soldier of Auraxis. Sporting the ability to carry high-capacity Light Machine Guns, long-range Battle Rifles, devastating Shotguns, and compact Submachine Guns, the Heavy Assault is the soldier with the most options to deal with his foe. Throw a Concussion Grenade into a room to render enemies almost completely incapable of retaliation as you storm in, mowing down whole groups before needing to think about reloading. If frontline soldier is what you want, Heavy Assault is the no-nonsense, shoot-it-til-it-dies class for you.

Combat Medic - This is no ordinary doctor. Medics have the ability to revive recently-fallen comrades, getting them back into the fight faster and keeping the force together at full strength. The Combat Medic has access to a variety of healing tools and the Medic’s suit is capable of releasing a cloud of microscopic Nanites, programmed to heal the wounds of anyone in range, including the Medic. Alternatively, Medics can equip the Shield Regeneration Field deployable, providing slow, constant shield regeneration to every ally in its area of effect. Every soldier on Auraxis can put people into the grave. Only the Medic can pull them back out of it.

Engineer - The Engineer is the construction expert, the utility class, and a vital part of any squad. As an Engineer, you will have access to a wide variety of weapon choices, including Carbines, Shotguns, Submachine Guns and Battle Rifles. Engineers are responsible for keeping a squad moving forward. They supply ammunition through a deployable Ammo Pack, repair vehicles, MAXes, generators, and turrets using the Nano-Armor Kit, and diffuse anti-vehicle mines without risking detonation. Is the enemy at the gates? Make sure there's an Engineer behind them.

Infiltrator - The Infiltrator is the errant shadow at the corner of your eye then vanishes as quickly as it appears. Infiltrators excel at behind-the-lines disruption, hacking base equipment to their faction with an advanced electronics suite integrated into their equipment. As an Infiltrator, kill your target with a well-placed headshot, sneak up behind him to finish him off silently, or prevent the enemy from fighting back at all by dropping soldiers' shields with EMP grenades. When the carnage is finished, silently merge into the surrounding landscape and wait for your next target.

Max - MAX stands for Mechanized Assault Exosuit. The MAX’s metallic footsteps signify the approach of a much more difficult foe than the standard infantryman. MAX suits are slow, massive, weaponized suits of alloy and composite armor and tips the balance when outnumbered and outgunned. Whether dishing out heavy damage to vehicles, clearing the skies of hostile aircraft, or making way for a friendly push with sheer infantry-killing power, the MAX is a juggernaut of unmatched destructive utility. "Behind all that armor and firepower, there's a man in there somewhere. And he's laughing at your puny bullets." -Unknown
